Daria 'Shani' Johnson stands as one of the Bay Area's most dynamic and thrilling musicians, captivating audiences with her rock-solid, sensual drumming style. A sought-after drummer in San Francisco, Shani's inviting grin, unwavering professionalism, and infectious energy have driven numerous sessions and performances. Continuously expanding her creative horizons, she has collaborated with notable artists such as Pamela Rose, Tammy Hall, Barbara Dane, Esperanza Spalding, Kofy Brown, Terrence Brewer, Eoin Harrington, Theresa Perez, members of Jazz Mafia and more.
A Berklee College of Music graduate, Shani is not just a percussion virtuoso but also an accomplished singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer, showcasing her versatility as a well-rounded musician. Her musical journey began in Los Angeles during elementary school, and she further honed her skills at the Hamilton High Academy of Music. A scholarship recipient at Berklee, she studied under renowned mentors like Victor Mendoza, Larry Finn, Rick Considine, Anne Peckham, Luanne Warner Katz, and Joe Hunt.
Co-founding the band London Street upon moving to San Francisco, Shani showcased her diverse talents on their debut album, "Life through Lyric and Melody." The album's success led to West Coast and European tours, sharing stages with John Legend, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, and Ozomatli. Evolving from London Street, Shani now explores new musical endeavors, including the Daria Johnson 4, Blues Is A Woman, Tracorum, Four Year Bender, Catfight! and Jordan and the Ritual.
