Jonathan Richman Show was FANTASTIC!!

Oh man, I'm still reeling from last night!

I opened up the night for Jonathan Richman at the Great American Music Hall with my cast of stellar musicians last night and I have to say it was incredible!
The audience response was just...just...i'm running out of adjectives here....bubbly?! Can I use bubbly?

Anyhoo, I was not only very pleased with our performance—Angeline Saris on bass, Simon Rochester on keys, Dan Herrera on trumpet and special gues Emily Palen on violin, but Jonthan Richman's performance was completely fabulous. He had that the crowd right where he wanted them. And they loved every single minute. I know I'm gonna be at the next show, and so should you!

I hope all who attended last night had as much fun as we did! Photos and hopefully video will be up soon, so stay tuned for that! And until then though, here's a little teaser:

Until then, just in case you missed it, don't forget to check out my interview in Impose Magazine. This was a great way to prep for the wonderful night of Jontathan Richman with Tommy Larkins and lil' ol' me, Daria Johnson!

Hugs!

New Projects

Hello all!
It has been an incredible time these past few years; a lot of change and growth. Many ideas have been flowing through my mind and it is high time I make them a reality. That is why I am very excited and happy to be cultivating one of my ideas, the Daria Johnson Trio. This group will be rooted in the soul with an emphasis on jazz. I am really looking forward to bringing to you all my new music with this group. Stay tuned. I just finished recording my demo for my beautiful project and I can't be more excited! With this complete, I can now focus on more live shows for you and then, wait for it... my album which I am planning on recording in spring of 2014. Oh yes!!

One of my other ideas I am working on is a jazz quintet with long time musical partner in crime trumpeter Dan Herrera. This project is still un-named, but rest assured that once we've got that going, I will get you in the know. I'm very thrilled about this project as it's been a dream of mine and Dan’s for a long time. We'll be doing original arrangements of tunes and some originals. It's gonna be good.
In addition, just because I just can't get enough of playing that jazzy swang, I will be performing around town with my other jazz trio D's Trē. With this project, I'll be playing more jazz standards to get you in the mood to swing and sway.

I was also working on my blues band Sister DeeDee Johnson. Bringing together two (maybe three) of my longtime friends to bring some bluesy grooves your way. This group is all about the blues and fun. We will take a walk down many blue avenues and boulevards persuading your feet to dance and your soul to weep. Yep, talkin' 'bout dem blues!
And of course, you can see me with my usual musical suspects like Eoin Harrington, Sean Leahy, Shantytown, Vudustu, Jon Mulvey, Vortex Tribe and many, many more.

Keep on the lookout for the above-mentioned projects. I also have a few other projects up my sleeve, so get ready! Yes indeedy I AM gonna tempt your tummy with the taste of nuts and honey!

Who loves you baby? I DO!!

Dirty Impound expose of Daria Johnson

What a great anniversay party for Dirty Impound!!

And how awesome! They asked me a few questions. Check it out!
Dirty 7: Daria Johnson

Here's a little peek:

Daria Johnson

Daria Johnson

If you met Daria Johnson in the audience at a show you’d encounter a thousand watt smile, a bold, delightful laugh, and a warm demeanor that don’t in any way suggest the ferocious badass that emerges when this powerful, attention grabbing drummer jumps behind a kit. She often sports a wonderful expression when she’s working the sticks that’s equal measures steely determination and joy at bashing on things – a primal look and feel that grabs ya and doesn’t let go.
